Ministry of Labour to investigate death of St. Marys Cement worker

March 21, 2023  By Durham Region News

A worker at St. Marys Cement in Bowmanville, Ont. was discovered trapped and removed with ‘vital signs absent’ in a workplace accident this morning.

Durham paramedics were dispatched to the 400 Bowmanville Ave. site for the report of a man ‘trapped under a large metal object,’ who then pulled the man out at 8:54 a.m. Air Ornge medical helicopter had been requested to attend, but the call was cancelled around 8:40 a.m. when it was determined by EMS workers that he was without vital signs.

The Ministry of Labour has been contacted and is currently investigating the incident. The ministry has issued four requirements to St. Mary’s and one requirement to the employer, Trade-Mark Industrial. Back in 2019, St. Mary’s Cement was fined $165,000 for a workplace accident that left one worker critically injured.
