March 13, 2013, Toronto, Ont. – A member of the Ontario
Hot Mix Producers Association (OHMPA) has been named the Ministry of
Transportation’s (MTO’s) 2012 Paver of the Year for work completed on Highway
21 from Sheppardton north to Kingsbridge between Kincardine and Goderich.

Lavis Contracting Inc., a Huron Country-based,
family run road building and road maintenance company, accepted the award at
the Ontario
Road Builders Association’s (ORBA’s)
provincial conference in Toronto in February and was recognized again at OHMPA’s AGM on March 7th. The
award recognizes one winner and three finalists for excellence in hot mix
paving on a project completed during the award year. Projects are judged on a
variety of criteria including smoothness, night paving, completion,
workmanship, mix quality and others.

“We are extremely proud of everyone at Lavis
Contracting for achieving this tremendous honour,” said OHMPA executive
director Doug Duke. “It’s one of the road-building industry’s most sought after
and prestigious awards. Lavis Contracting is a longstanding member of the Huron
County business community and this award highlights the quality of work they’ve
been doing around the region for decades.”

Lavis’s Highway 21 project scored excellent ratings
on its hot mix, which consistently met the MTO’s specification requirements.
According to the MTO, the ride quality and workmanship of the project area was
graded as excellent and the overall finish and appearance of the job was
considered exceptional.

Additionally, three finalists, also OHMPA members,
were recognized for their work. They were Aecon Construction and Materials Ltd.,
for their work on Highway 403 eastbound collector lanes in Mississauga and
various other locations on Highways 401, 427 and QEW; R.W. Tomlinson Ltd., for
their work on 8 kilometres of Highway 17 easterly from Highway 533; and Coco
Paving Ltd., for their work on Highway 401 eastbound and westbound lanes from
Mitchell Road easterly to County Road 41 in Napannee.
