Highway improvements coming to the Sunshine Coast

September 4, 2019  By Government of B.C.

Sept. 3, 2019, B.C. – Drivers can look forward to smoother travelling along Highway 101 on the Sunshine Coast as the ministry prepares to resurface a stretch of highway between Powell River and Lund in B.C.

“The Sunshine Coast is a beautiful place for people to live and visit. We know this improvement to Highway 101 will make travel safer for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, and everyone who relies on this route,” said Nicholas Simons, MLA for Powell River-Sunshine Coast, on behalf of Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure.

The resurfacing work will improve nearly five kilometres of the highway between King Avenue and Wilde Road. It will consist of patch repairs, shoulder improvements, overlay asphalt paving and line painting.

BA Blacktop Ltd. won the $2.5-million contract for this project. Crews are mobilizing, with paving work starting in mid-September 2019. The project is expected to be complete by late fall.

The road repairs and resurfacing will provide safer driving conditions and improve ride comfort, as well as benefit area residents, businesses and the community with safety and dust control improvements.

During the work period, drivers can anticipate single-lane alternating traffic from Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The ministry reminds all drivers to respect traffic control personnel.
