fall giving motorists an uninterrupted, multi-lane roadway all the way from
Grande Prairie to the Montana border.

A $78-million investment in 20-kilometres of new four-lane
roadway through the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation west of Valleyview will complete
the project.

“This final 20 kilometres caps a long-term commitment to
invest in this important trade corridor. Safe and efficient transportation
networks support our economy, families and communities,” says Wayne Drysdale,
Alberta Minister of Transportation.

Opening market access

Highway 43 is part of the CANAMEX Trade Corridor, a
6,000-kilometre network of highways running from Alaska to Mexico that supports
growing trade links between Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

The Alberta government has invested more than $2 billion to
develop the north-south trade corridor since 1998, including $720 million to
twin Highway 43 between Grande Prairie and Edmonton to support the corridor.

Alberta’s portion of CANAMEX stretches 1,175 kilometres from
the Alberta-B.C. border west of Grande Prairie to the Alberta-Montana border at
Coutts. In addition to Highway 43, Alberta’s portion of CANAMEX includes the
southwest portion of Anthony Henday Drive in Edmonton, Deerfoot Trail in
Calgary, and Highways 16, 2, 3, and 4.

Alberta Transportation is also committed to repairing the
frost heaves along Highway 43, between Bezanson and Grande Prairie. Frost
heaves are common in Alberta, and due to local soil conditions in the Bezanson
area, the problem is magnified. Repairs are currently being designed and
engineered, and motorists can expect a smoother ride along this stretch of
Highway 43 by October.
