Highway 33 repaving project will enhance safety for travellers

This summer, a section of Highway 33 in British Columbia will be repaved, creating a safer, smoother riding surface for drivers, including those travelling to the Big White Ski Resort.

The 39.5-kilometre section from the Carmi Creek Bridge to the base of Big White Road will be resurfaced and concrete roadside barrier will be replaced. In addition, a four-kilometre section of Big White Road will be resurfaced, starting from the Highway 33 junction. The project will improve the safety and efficiency of the highway and make the driving experience more comfortable and enjoyable.

A $6.5-million construction contract has been awarded to Emil Anderson Construction. Work is expected to start this week.

Provincial construction sites have protocols and policies in place following the requirements of the provincial health officer to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. These measures include physical distancing and other protocols to ensure worker and public safety.

Once the project begins, drivers can expect minor delays and, at times, single alternating traffic. The ministry appreciates people’s patience during this resurfacing work.
