Highway 16 resurfacing near McBride, B.C. to get underway

April 19, 2017 – A project to resurface Highway 16 from West Twin Creek to Bell Mountain Road has gone to tender, announced MLA for Prince George-Valemount Shirley Bond, on behalf of Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone.

“Highway 16 is a critical corridor that is used by vehicles transporting goods, commercial traffic and of course residential users and tourists, so it is important to ensure that the highway is safe, reliable and well maintained,” said Bond. “This investment will allow for 20 kilometres of resurfacing between West Twin Creek and Bell Mountain Road. We encourage highway users to plan for potential delays during the work and be patient as crews complete this important project.”

Twenty kilometres of Highway 16 approximately 15 kilometres northwest of McBride, B.C. will be resurfaced using Hot-in-Place recycling, a process that is faster, saves resources and lowers greenhouse gas emissions.

Work on the project is scheduled to start at the end of April and be completed by the fall.

These projects are part of B.C. on the Move, the B.C. government’s 10-year transportation plan for the improvement of the province’s transportation network. Over the next three years the ministry and its partners are investing over $4.6 billion in priority transportation investments as part of this plan.
