Hedley Bridge replacement project underway

July 3, 2018  By B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure

The Hedley Bridge replacement project on Highway 3 will start this week, while the existing bridge in Hedley is replaced with a new, two-lane structure.

A temporary two-lane detour will be put in place while the old bridge is dismantled and removed, and the new 26-metre-long structure is built.

Drivers can expect short delays throughout this work to improve safety and reliability. Temporary lane closures will also be required at times, due to paving and road work, resulting in single-lane alternating traffic.

The replacement project, which is expected to be completed by fall 2018, is taking place 29 kilometres west of Keremeos, B.C..

Dorosh Construction from Langley was awarded the $2.3-million contract to replace the existing Hedley Bridge, which was built in the late 1940s, and was nearing the end of its serviceable life.

Drivers are reminded to obey construction speed zones, and follow traffic control signage at all times.

The ministry appreciates people’s patience while this work is taking place, and encourages drivers to check DriveBC.ca and @DriveBC on Twitter for the most up-to-date highway information.
