June 16, 2014, Charlottetown, P.E.I. – Road construction is
down significantly in Prince Edward Island thanks to a delay in funding from
the Build Canada program.
According to an article from the Journal-Pioneer, P.E.I.
roadbuilders are facing up to a 40 per cent loss in business as a result of the
delays, costing companies to trim the number of employees hired for the road
construction season.
Federal dollars were supposed to start flowing to the
province at the end of March, but at this point, nothing has been received.
In addition to the loss of jobs, the province is being hurt
by their inability to do necessary repairs to its infrastructure, causing the
state of its highway system to be in significant disrepair.
