April 17, 2023, VICTORIA – The government of British Columbia has granted FlatIron Constructors with a $54.5 million contract for the Vancouver Island corridor’s Highway 17 Keating Cross Overpass project.

The project aims to replace the northbound left turn onto Keating Cross Road with an overpass, with the goal of making the area safer given the high volume of traffic. The project also involves widening Keating Cross Road and Highway 17, realigning the southbound on-ramp to Victoria, and closing the access to Highway 17 via East Saanich and Martindale roads.

The overall project budget is $76.8 million, with a provincial contribution of $57.6 million. The Government of Canada, through the New Building Canada Fund, will be providing $16.7 million to the project, with the District of Central Saanich, another partner in the project, is contributing $2.5 million.

“This overpass will provide a critical connection between Highway 17 and Keating Cross Road, improving safety and accessibility for commuters, travellers and businesses in this growing region,” Rob Fleming, B.C. Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, said in a press release.
