January 25, 2016 – The first round of federal infrastructure funding will focus on a “deferred maintenance backlog” according to Infrastructure Minister Amarjeet Sohi.
In an article from the CBC, Sohi said that the next two years will focus on fixing the backlog across all infrastructure throughout Canada. After that, new infrastructure projects will be considered for additional government funding.
Sohi said that it is the government’s goal to get funds moving in time for the summer construction season, but admitted that the government will have to wait until the budget has been presented before funds can be allocated.
