The co-located shows offer attendees access to a combined 192,000-plus net square feet of exhibits from more than 440 exhibitors, including more than 110 new to the shows; as well as more than 50 educational sessions through the AGG1 Academy & Expo.
Here are some of the latest aggregates- and asphalt-related technologies that are on display.
Astec’s Silobot inspection service uses an innovative wireless, remotely controlled robot that analyzes, evaluates and inspects asphalt silos for imperfections. With a fully immersive first-person view, there is no need for an individual to be inside the silo. An experienced Astec technician utilizes the patent-pending Astec Silobot inspection device to inspect the silo interior. The technician examines and photographs the silo interior using the device’s head-tracking HD camera. Using the Silobot, a technician measures silo wall thickness, performs a visual inspection of the cone, checks for build-up in weld seams and checks for holes.

The Trimble PCS900 Paving Control System is an automatic 3D screed control system that can significantly improve paving productivity and ride ability of road and airport surfaces by directly referencing the road design. Using the PCS900, contractors can produce final paved surfaces with smoothed seams and significantly fewer waves. The technology enables contractors to accurately pave complex designs without a reference surface or sting line and can be used for super elevated curves and complex designs, providing millimeter accuracy and reliable tracking. John Deere has added Final Tier 4 engine technology to the 944K hybrid wheel loader, providing customers an increase in fuel economy from the Interim Tier 4 model. Other machine updates include improving operator comfort and increasing uptime, while lowering daily operating costs. Equipped with a 536-hp, Final Tier 4 John Deere PSS 13.5-litre engine, the 944K boasts nine to 14 per cent lower fuel consumption compared to its IT4 predecessor. Along with the engine update, operators will also enjoy an increase in coast control performance. This standard feature gives the operator the capability to adjust the aggressiveness of the machine during deceleration with three different settings. The higher the setting, the more electric braking will occur during application. Other machine modifications include the addition of a heated and ventilated cab seat to provide maximum comfort to the operator. Outside the cab, remote jump-start terminals were added to all 944K FT4 machines in a closed and locked engine compartment.

Luff’s High Moisture Seal (HMS) is the perfect solution for environments with high humidity or excessive moisture and areas with the potential for fine particle contamination. Luff has engineered and designed a polymer disc that seats inside the end cap, remaining stationary as the roller rotates around it. This disc offers two major benefits, it adds anti-lock technology to the roller, which reduces or eliminates rollers seizing due to excess debris or material spillage and acts as a deflection shield against direct moisture pressure. The HMS equipped rollers feature a grease packed cavity behind the shield that acts as a barrier for any moisture or contaminants that may get behind the disc. The combination of the patented end cap design with a triple labyrinth seal and polymer disc has created an unmatched sealing protection that reduces conveyor maintenance and provides superior roller efficiency.
The McCloskey All-Terrain ST80T blends all the benefits of onsite track mobility with the high productivity of a radial conveyor. The ST80T has a lift axle option which allows it to switch from track mode to radial in seconds. Designed for use in any terrain, the stackers, ranging from 60’ to 150’, are easily moved site to site without the need to remove the wheels for transport. Built-in levelling indicators allow operators to position the stacker regardless of the ground evenness, with independent hydraulic jack legs to stabilize once in place.
The newest model of Roadtec’s RX-700e half-lane planer will be in booth 23089 at WOA. The upgraded RX700 features the increased power of an 800 hp Tier 4 Final Caterpillar engine. The Tier 4 Final engine does not require DEF fluid as a component of the after-treatment system, reducing the operation costs typically required at this emission standard. This heavy-duty half-lane planer couples productivity with low cost of ownership. Additional features include variable cut widths (cuts up to 14” deep with standard widths of 6’7”, 7’2”, 8’2” and 10’6”); increased wear life (the cutter housing includes angled moldboards, which prevent material from accumulating around the drum); easy to use conveyors (a 60-degree conveyor swing permits easy feeding of a truck in an adjacent lane or around a tight bend); and automated elevation controls (the Automated Control of Elevation (ACE) system automates machine elevation through grade and slope sensors).
Superior will show its new Alliance Low Water Washer at AGG1. This unique machinery is capable of accepting a dry feed within the crushing circuit. The material is then washed and dewatered to a moisture content as low as 8%. Owners and operators avoid costly haulage and handling fees associated with transporting crusher fines to a separate wash site. In addition, see the new Helix Cyclone. Engineered with a geometrically smart inlet configuration, the design improves performance and lowers wear to internal components. Additionally, several conveyor components will be on display in the manufacturer’s booth including a new impact cradle. Its unique curved design eliminates harmful space between the conveyor belting and the bed.
Volvo Construction Equipment will be bringing their proven road product lineup to World of Asphalt 2019, anchored by compactors equipped with the latest intelligent machine control technology, track and wheeled pavers, and the latest wheeled excavator featuring the shortest tail swing on the market. The EWR170E wheeled excavator will be on display along an L70H wheel loader, P4410B and P7110B tracked pavers, P7170B wheeled paver, and DD35B, DD105 OSC, DD110C asphalt compactors. In addition to its growing lineup of equipment, experts will be available to answer questions about new road technology and uptime-enhancing features and services. These include Compact Assist, the Volvo Intelligent Compaction System with Density Direct; and ActiveCare Direct, the telematics monitoring and reporting service offered directly from Volvo.
The Wirtgen W 150 CFi with new 1,800 mm milling drum assembly will be exhibited and will be paired with a display on cutting tool technology, featuring cutting drum and new PCD cutting tools from Wirtgen. With Wirtgen benefits such as the Level Pro Plus leveling system, and Flexible Cutter System (FCS), the W 150 CF/ W 150 CFi provides high milling performance in an easily transportable package. While its standard drum width is 1,500 mm, as of 2018 it now can be fitted with a 1,800 mm drum, making it ideal for surface course rehabilitation on medium to large job sites. New PCD milling tools on display are particularly suitable for surface layer rehabilitation thanks to their up-to-date tool geometry and materials. An exceptionally long service life can be achieved thanks to the highly wear-resistant tool tip made of polycrystalline diamond.
Spray jet technology for ultrathin bonded overlays – and now for placing bond coats for standard asphalt paving – will be available via the SUPER 1800-3i SprayJet paver from Vögele. Also displayed will be the popular 10-ft. tracked SUPER 2000-3i and tracked SUPER 700-3i utility paver.
Hamm asphalt rollers of all sizes on display will include the innovative DV+90i VV-S pivot steered roller with split vibration drum for perfect compaction of tight radii; the HD+ 90i VO featuring vibration and oscillation in two drums in a single unit; and two HD CompactLine rollers, the HD 14i VO featuring vibration and oscillation, and the HD 12i VV with vibration in both drums. A hands-on cab simulator featuring Hamm's exclusive Easy Drive operating concept will be on exhibit.
Kleemann's easily transported, track-mounted MOBIREX MR 130 Zi EVO2 mobile impact crusher will be displayed. This mobile impact crusher can be used for natural stone processing, but is especially suited for processing reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) in asphalt plants.
Haver & Boecker
Haver & Boecker has launched the Tyler F-Class portable plant that includes several new technologies to improve setup time and extend equipment longevity in quarry and mining operations. The portable plant features a new custom-built chassis equipped with six hydraulic run-on jacks that quickly level the plant, eliminating the need for cribbing. The run-on jacks also ensure the chassis stays level during operation, which minimizes equipment wear. Producers can move and set up the portable F-Class in less than 30 minutes. The chassis’ hydraulic system raises the vibrating screen to its inclined operating position — usually 20 degrees. Takedown is even faster, requiring less than 20 minutes to lower the unit so it can move to the next location.
Metso will be showcasing two new developments in the crushing and screening industry: the NW Rapid portable crusher and one of the biggest advancements in polymer screen media since the introduction of polyurethane in the 1980s. Focusing on providing the most dependable solutions for today’s aggregate producers, Metso will also highlight its MX Multi-Action crushing innovations, Metso Metrics predictive technology, and Metso Rock Breakers. Telsmith’s Hydra-Jaw Crusher is ideal for a number of processing applications such as aggregates, mining, and recycling, and is available in three configurations; stationary, track and wheeled portable plants. The jaw series includes four models (H2238, H2550, H3244 and H3450) with crusher closed side settings from 2” to 8” and crushing capacities ranging from 100 short tph (91 mtph) to 688 short tph (614 mtph). The Hydra-Jaw toggle tensioning system saves time and costs by eliminating the need to adjust springs when changing the setting.
During the show, McLanahan plans to launch their new H Series MAX Screen line. This triple-shaft horizontal screen line increases operation efficiency by offering a screen with more accurate particle sizing. Easy adjustment of speed, stroke and angle allows the operator to dial in the exact screening action to best fit the application. McLanahan will also showcase their growing line of modular equipment, such as Ultra Sand Plants and Ultra Fines Recovery units. Readily available with quick set-up time, the various modules in these plants can be configured in a variety ways to fit your application, helping to produce more, faster.
With its powerful 760.3-hp (567-kW) diesel engine, the BOMAG BM 2200/75 delivers high-performance milling of half-lane widths reaching 86.6 in (2,200 mm) at precise milling depths of up to 13.8 in (350 mm). Offering a range of quick-change milling drums options and efficient transition of engine to milling power, this largest cold mill in the company’s product line is built for high performance applications such as major county roads, highways, interstates and airports. BOMAG’s unique BMS 15 milling tooth holder system delivers superior milling productivity with low wear to extended service life by up to 30% over other cutting systems. The base tooth holder features a maintenance-free bolt-on design that does not require retightening to reduce service time. Featuring a low-resistance profile, the tapered tooth retainer claw delivers more cutting power with less wear. When cutting tool changing is required, the holder’s quick-change design requires approximately 25% of the time required to change a full set of teeth compared to conventional systems, increasing machine uptime availability.
Lippmann designed its new 3055 jaw crusher as a lighter-weight, contractor-friendly crushing solution that doesn’t sacrifice productivity and reliability. The Lippmann 3055 gives customers a durable crusher with added focus on portability, serviceability, and safety, making it an excellent addition to any rental fleet. Loadscan’s recently launched conveyor volume scanner (CVS) is a high-tech, yet easy-to-use, tool that allows users to see how much material is moving across their conveyor belt. The CVS will provide accurate non-contact volume measurement of quarried materials, allowing you to optimize productivity and gain ultimate production control. The CVS system utilizes laser scanning technology, combined with proprietary software, to measure the exact volume of the material (either loaded in a truck/ trailer bin or flowing on a conveyor belt). The Loadscan belt scanner uses a specially designed scan-head, with single laser, to continuously scan the full width of a conveyor belt at high angular resolution to capture accurate volumetric measurement of the material flowing by. The Loadscan conveyor volume scanner works across all conveyor belts. The standard scan head is simply fixed to the appropriately sized frame, which expands or contracts, for a secure fit to the user’s particular belt.
