The latest wheel loaders available for the Canadian road building and aggregates industries.

July 26, 2016  By Rock to Road Staff

July 26, 2016 – For this edition of Rock to Road, we caught up with wheel loader manufacturers selling equipment in the Canadian market. We asked them to provide us with information about the wheel loader models best suited for the road building and aggregates industries.

Here are their recommendations…

JCB
JCB’s 457 wheel loader features a 7.7-litre, 258hp MTU engine that meets Tier 4 Final emission standards without the need for a costly diesel particulate filter (DPF). The engine contributes to a massive fuel savings of around 16 per cent compared to JCB’s previous model. JCB’s LiveLink telematics system comes standard, providing fleet managers and owners with remote access to real-time fuel consumption and machine working data.

Doosan
Doosan DL250-5 wheel loaders are designed for scooping, lifting, carrying and dumping activities associated with stone, sand and gravel. The 171-net-horsepower wheel loaders are approved for use with a 3.3 cubic-yard bucket. The standard configuration has a maximum dump height of 9 feet 2 inches, while a high-lift option extends the dump height to 10 feet 7 inches. Also available in this size is a tool carrier (TC) iteration that may be ideal for lift and carry applications when the operator needs to keep items level while the loader is moving.

Volvo CE
The Volvo L250H wheel loader is a high production machine designed to deliver excellent productivity and profitability in applications including quarry, mining and heavy infrastructure. Operators will experience short cycle times, high breakout force and excellent controllability with this heavy-duty machine. Specifically in North America, the wheel loader is perfectly matched to on-highway trucks, and the L250H will load a 25-ton triaxle on-highway truck in two passes — two full buckets for one full truck.

Case
The new 521F wheel loader from CASE Construction Equipment meets Tier 4 Final emissions standards using selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, and delivers best-in-class 131-net peak horsepower with an FPT Tier 4 Final-certified engine. The 22,948-pound wheel loader has a bucket breakout force of 19,303-pounds with 2.3-cubic-yard bucket capacity. Limited-slip axles come standard, as well as an award-winning joystick steering option, advanced Instrument Cluster with four selectable power modes, and the CASE Quiet Cab.

John Deere
The John Deere 944K wheel loader is equipped with a 536 hp, PowerTech EPA Interim Tier 4 engine coupled with a hybrid-electric drive. The hybrid-electric drive system is designed to be more dependable and the wheel loader is an excellent choice for maintaining stockpiles and heaping hoppers in quarry operations and other production facilities. Brushless A/C generators and motors, water-cooled brake resistors, and solid-state power electronics deliver reliable, long-term performance. Reduced engine-speed range increases wear life over conventional drives. The hybrid-electric drive recaptures energy while slowing the loader when the operator lets off the accelerator, and lessening the load on the engine.
