LAST CALL for webinar: Protecting workers from silica dust
October 16, 2017 - When you consider the many hazards workers face on a construction site, you probably wouldn’t think that dust poses too much a danger to health. Well, think again. Silica dust, which contains microscopic particles of crystalline silica can permanently damage your lungs over time, leading to diseases such as silicosis and lung cancer.
Silica is found in substantial quantities in natural materials such as sand, sandstone, granite, clay, shale and slate. It’s also found in building materials including concrete, masonry products, brick and tile. If you work with sand and gravel especially when earth moving or road building you may be exposed to silica dust.
Silica-related diseases are entirely preventable. Employers in all Canadian jurisdictions are required to determine your risk of silica exposure and put controls in place to protect you from silica dust.
Rock to Road is pleased to offer this complimentary webinar, presented by WorkSafeBC's Geoff Clark.
