OSSGA Spring Tune-Up: Operations, Safety & Services Training

March 14, 2018 – This full-day course is “back-to-basics” training on the safe operation of a wide range of equipment. This training is suited for novice and experienced equipment operators.

Conveyor belt safety and mechanical splicing
AFM Industries will walk trainees through the steps required to properly and safely prepare a damaged conveyor belt for mechanical fasteners. Starting with hazard analysis, PPE, proper tooling, belt tensioning and ending with techniques to safely perform a mechanical splice, this will be an interactive station allowing for “hands-on” training.

Guarding standards and belt maintenance
Kreator Equipment Sales & Service will provide trainees hands-on experience and best practices for maintaining belt conveyor systems, guarding standards, standardizing guarding and offer tips and tricks of the trade for effective, safe and productive work practices.

Generator maintenance and safety
This module led by Toromont CAT will highlight key safety issues when working with portable generators and basic maintenance checks.

Changing bearings
Assinck will demonstrate a way to remove the bearing, clean up and install a new bearing and explain reasons for bearing failures. They will also review hot work permits, job tasks analysis, plus proper tooling and equipment.

Behind the scenes: Walker Thorold Quarry and Landfill
This is Walker’s original quarry. You’ll visit the working face, progressive rehabilitation, processing plant and asphalt plant. Plus, see the landfill, gas recovery station and organics processing station.
