November 11, 2016 - For the past 25 years OHMPA’s annual Fall Asphalt Seminar has been a hub of asphalt education as Canada’s largest single-day asphalt seminar.
The 2016 program, Our Focus Remains the Same! Quality Hot Mix Asphalt will take place at the Universal Eventspace in Vaughan, Ontario on December 1. The seminar will feature two keynote speakers that will address the latest developments in producing quality asphalt paving using reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), and enhancing pavement durability by increasing in-place density.

Opening keynote speaker, Jim Musselman, P.E., asphalt performance manager of Oldcastle Materials, headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., will present on the current state of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), its track record of success, the latest advancements and RAP management. Speaking on increasing in-place density, Mark Buncher, Director of Engineering for the Asphalt Institute in Lexington, Ky., will present on advancements in pavement design technology and construction techniques that allow for better in-place compaction.

Other seminar highlights include a presentation on 2016 stone mastic asphalt (SMA) projects from three perspectives – provincial owner, contractor and equipment supplier – and will feature MTO Head of the Bituminous Section Pamela Marks, Aecon Construction and Materials Limited Director of Quality and Infrastructure Tom Dziedziejko and Wajax Equipment Construction Sales Representative, Ryan Link. Additionally, Steve Manolis, Coco Engineering General Manager will present on lessons learned from the new PGACs and OHMPA president and Yellowline Asphalt Ltd. general manager, Donn Bernal will provide an update on the final work of the Quality of Asphalt Pavement Task Force and what is to come.

“A lot of changes have taken place this year within the industry and the association. As we celebrate the Fall Asphalt Seminar’s 25th anniversary, and in the midst of change, our focus indeed remains the same,” said OHMPA executive director Vince Aurilio. “Whether it is the implementation of new specifications and/or changes to existing specifications, or the advancement in materials and testing, OHMPA continues to work with its partners in improving the quality of hot mix asphalt and the long-term performance of asphalt pavements.”

The seminar will bring together the province’s hot mix asphalt producers, asphalt cement suppliers, key industry stakeholders and internationally renowned industry experts all in one room for one day, which lends itself to a fantastic opportunity for attendees to network and to gain a great deal of knowledge. Registration for the 2016 Fall Asphalt Seminar is currently underway and asphalt producers, contractors, road owners, consulting engineers, researchers and academics are encouraged to attend.
