Excitement builds for Canadian market

The Central Hall at World of Concrete was filled with the latest innovations and technologies that are coming to Canada, if not already here, thanks to the booming inclusion of concrete construction opportunities in road tenders across the country.

One company displaying both new and improved equipment for the concrete road construction industry is Terex. Terex officials were among the company’s raving about the strength of business in Canada, including their increased penetration into the western provinces.

Terex unveiled their newly-updated Bid-Well 3600 paver, featuring a new paving carriage design features segmented upper and lower sections, similar to the larger 4800 paver design, allowing the upper carriage to stay cleaner than previous designs to improve carriage longevity. The heavy-duty design positions the drag pan mounting system on the upper carriage to better withstand the weight and pull of dual drag-pan configurations.

A new universal power crown adjuster for the 3600 paver makes quick and efficient crown adjustments, regardless of whether paving inline or at a skew. The updated arrangement enables the crown adjuster to be mounted inline or moved to an adjacent hinge point opposite of the other adjuster, giving operators the ability to quickly adjust the crown when paving at a skew.

The company also displayed its new GEN2 V230S skid steer loader and the GEN2 R190T compact track loader. The new Terex Generation 2 (GEN2) loaders feature more than 100 enhancements from the previous models.

According to the release on the new loaders: As part of the company’s continuous improvement methodology, many of the enhancements to the Terex GEN2 loader lines are aimed at increasing machine performance through additional ROC and loader breakout forces, while increasing the machine’s durability and reliability in the field, which reduces the cost of ownership during the life of the loader.

Innovations in construction equipment are making the jobsite more efficient and helping save money over the length of the project, but innovations in materials are lowering costs for the contractor at the beginning of the project.

Such is the case with MMFX, whose ChromX uncoated, corrosion resistant high strength rebar is providing a cost savings at the point of purchase. While the product itself costs more per foot than traditional steel rebar, MMFX Steel’s high strength product means companies can buy up to one-third less rebar than usual, for the same project. That cost savings then extends long-term, as the product has a longer life than similar rebar products. The result is both short-term and long-term savings for the contractor.

MMFX Steel already has road construction projects in place in five Canadian provinces, including the NE Anthony Henday in Edmonton and the Circle Drive South Bridge in Saskatoon.
