Contractors gather in Las Vegas for World of Concrete 2016

April 27, 2016  By staff Report

April 26, 2016 – The 2016 edition of World of Concrete provided plenty of opportunities to discover the newest equipment, technology and innovations available for the Canadian concrete road construction industry.

We present our exclusive look at the companies that made headlines with new releases at the show:

John Deere
John Deere introduced the 700K SmartGrade Dozer featuring the built-in Topcon 3D-MC2 Grade Control System. The addition of the system provides a dozer aimed at improving jobsite accuracy and work quality. The 700K is purpose-built for heavy-duty applications including the road construction market, where accuracy and power are essential to the job.

In addition to the new dozer, John Deere also welcomed four new Tier 4 Final skid steers and one new compact track loader to its G Series lineup.

GOMACO
Gomaco made headlines with the official unveiling of the world’s first 3D-controlled bridge deck finisher. First tested in 2014 using a Gomaco SL-750, the 3D guidance system with single mast provides users with a prism, as well as a slope sensor, to give Gomaco finishers the ability to accurately calculate and pave the necessary slope of the bridge deck. The same application can also be used in tough slope applications like canals, test tracks and more.

Bobcat
The newest machine from Bobcat made its debut at the show. The S595 skid-steer loader is the highest-lifting and most-powerful model of the company’s 500 frame size. The S595 includes a pressurized cab, guard bar and improvements to both the hose routing and maintenance checkpoint.

Topcon
Topcon released three new products at World of Concrete 2016. The most robust of the three releases was the new 3D-MCMAX – a new 3D dozer machine control system that is driven by dual IMUs to improve on-grade performance.

The new i-53 is a new indicate machine control system available for dozers. This new economical option helps improve the blade’s angle and cutting edge. The X-53i local positioning system is a new solution for excavators in areas with little to no GNSS coverage.

Geoshack
Geoshack announces a distribution agreement for Lockheed Martin UAVs. The Phoenix Mapper fixed-wing drone uses hand launch deployment and possesses a maximum speed of 45mph. The Phoenix has professional-grade Kestrel autopilot built-in and is built for difficult weather and geographic conditions.

The Indago Mapper quad-copter uses single-pass mapping with a precision flight system to provide software-generated infographic renderings of the jobsite.

Doosan Portable Power
Doosan Portable Power now offers three newly designed models to its mobile generator lineup — G25, G50 and G70. The G25 was on display at its outdoor booth at World of Concrete in Las Vegas.

The G25, G50 and G70 mobile generators incorporate numerous innovations based on customer input and are aimed at improving operator experience. The newly packaged Tier 4 Final–compliant generators offer improved fuel efficiency, extended runtimes and low sound levels.

International
Following up on the pre-show demonstration the day before, International provided a close up look at its new HX Series trucks. The Class 8 premium vocational trucks are the company’s attempt to re-capture a stronger stake of the vocational truck market.

Three of the four new HX Series models, HX515, HX615 and HX620, are on display on the show floor. The HX515 and HX615 are built especially for construction dumping and concrete mixing applications, while the HX620 is built for heavy haul applications.

Hyundai
Three new machines from Hyundai were unveiled, as two new excavators and a new wheel loader were released at the show.

The HL940TM is the newest addition to Hyundai’s HL900 series of Tier 4 Final wheel loaders. The Tool Master loader provides increased load and lifting capacity while improving operator visibility.

The two newest Tier 4 Final hydraulic excavators from Hyundai are the HX140L and HX235LCR. The biggest advancement in the two new models is the standard inclusion of an AAVM (All-Around View Monitoring) system.

Doosan
Doosan came to World of Concrete with the new DL220-5 wheel loader – an updated version of its popular DL220 model. The DL220-5 features a three cubic yard bucket with an updated cab for improved operator comfort. Built for versatility, the DL220-5 can easily be fitted with a quick coupler for multiple attachment use in multi-application jobsites.
