Doosan introduces new wheel loaders

December 1, 2015  By  Andrew Macklin

December 1, 2015 – The new DL200-5 and DL200TC-5 (tool carrier) are the first Doosan wheel loaders with a hydrostatic drive system — in place of the traditional torque converter transmission.

The dash-5 wheel loaders replace the dash-3 models, transitioning from an interim Tier 4 to Tier 4-compliant diesel engine. They offer improvements in fuel efficiency, operator comfort, serviceability and reliability.

Like their predecessors, customers can choose between two lift-arm designs. The 142-net-horsepower DL200-5 wheel loader is built with a standard Z-bar lift-arm linkage system, which is ideal for digging, heavy lifting and general construction tasks. The DL200TC-5 wheel loader has a parallel-lift-linkage system to help the wheel loader operator keep the load level through the entire lift cycle. Both the DL200-5 and DL200TC-5 have a 2.6 cubic-yard bucket capacity.

New hydrostatic drive system
A new hydrostatic drive system in the DL200-5 and DL200TC-5 wheel loaders replaces a torque converter transmission. A hydrostatic drive system offers several advantages over the torque converter system, including:
• Improved fuel efficiency because of higher performance at lower engine rpms
• Enhanced machine positional control increases productivity
• Reduced wear on the brakes as dynamic breaking automatically slows the wheel loader

Selectable power modes
DL200-5 and DL200TC-5 wheel loader operators can select between three power modes that adjust the maximum engine rpm. Unique to the hydrostatic drive system, the engine rpm is not directly correlated to the machine’s travel speed, so the maximum travel speed remains unaffected.
• Power: Provides superior power and performance for tough conditions and truck-loading tasks
• Standard: Balances fuel consumption for everyday digging, grading and lifting tasks
• Economy: Reduces fuel consumption for low-demand applications

Traction control management
Doosan DL200-5 and DL200TC-5 wheel loader operators can easily adjust traction force to match jobsite conditions to reduce wheel slippage for a more efficient operation in digging, stockpiling and loading applications. Operators may choose from the following traction modes.
• Max: Provides maximum traction force
• Traction control: Allows the wheel loader operator to choose from three levels of reduced traction forces to match jobsite conditions
• S-Mode: Helps when operating on slippery roadway conditions

Wheel loader operators may instantly return to the machine’s Max traction mode by pressing the kick-down button on the joystick control.

Speed management
The new speed management feature allows DL200-5 and DL200TC-5 operators to obtain full engine rpm for optimal lift arm or hydraulic attachment performance, yet fine tune the maximum machine travel speed via seven present levels within first gear, up to 8mph.

Auto-shutdown
Doosan added an auto-shutdown system to its new DL200-5 and DL200TC-5 wheel loaders to help owners and operators save valuable fuel during non-working conditions. Operators can configure the idle time before auto shutdown, from 3-to-60 minutes. When enabled, the feature will shut down the wheel loader’s engine when the preset idle time is met.

Cab improvements
New Doosan wheel loaders feature cab enhancements that include an improved adjustable steering column to provide more leg room, ease of operation and more floor space. Also inside the cab, a new fuel consumption gauge informs operators of how much fuel the machine is using in real time. Operators can read the fuel consumption gauge on the standard color LCD screen. Updates to the keypad on the dashboard make it easier for operators to review, adjust settings and to clean and maintain it. Visibility within the cab and around the machine has been improved, too. Two rear LED lamps provide better views, especially when working at night.

Additional features of the DL200-5 and DL200TC-5 include heated mirrors to melt front and snow, a sun visor and an optional rearview camera. The rearview camera is visible from the LCD screen and provides a view of the machine’s rear surroundings.

Improved serviceability
Ease-of-maintenance updates include additional oil sampling ports to improve preventive maintenance procedures. In addition, various fluid pressures are now viewable via the dash panel, allowing monitoring from inside the wheel loader cab.

Easy attachment changes
Versatility is important to wheel loader owners when they are working on a jobsite, especially when they want to change attachments quickly. The DL200-5 and DL200TC-5 may be equipped with an optional hydraulic quick coupler to easily change non-hydraulic attachments, including buckets — general purpose, light material or multi-purpose — and pallet forks.
