Debate continues over Highway 3 widening

May 30, 2016  By  Andrew Macklin

May 30, 2016 – Politicians in the Windsor area are calling for the widening of Highway 3 between the border city and Leamington, but experts are suggesting it might not be worth the expense.

According to a CBC News article, the area politicians are calling for the widening in order to make the highway safer for motorists. But a study from the Ministry of Transportation shows that the number of accidents is relatively unchanged on a five-kilometre stretch of the highway that was twinned back in 2009.

University of Windsor professor Chris Lee, an expert on the subject, suggests that an increase in lanes does not necessarily equate to a reduction in accidents.
