March 30, 2015 – Two contractors in Manitoba are facing
undisclosed fines after road construction projects were not completed before
their 2014 deadline.

According to a report from the CBC, J.C. Paving and Borland Construction,
both of Winnipeg, are the only companies being fined for late work in 2014.
There were nine contractors in total that did not complete work on schedule.
J.C. Paving is being fined for work not finished on a Winnipeg streets package,
while Borland faces fines based on work not finished on both the Henderson
Highway and the Polo Park area.

The Manitoba Heavy Construction Association has suggested
that less delays will occur if the City of Winnipeg issued road tenders earlier
in the year, allowing contractors to begin work earlier in the construction
season. The MHCA is calling on the City to award 80 per cent of its road
tenders before the end of May, well in advance of the start of the construction
season in May.
