Concerns over Dufferin expansion in Paris

March 22, 2012  By  Scott Jamieson

March 22, 2012, Paris, Ont. – A group of residents is raising concerns about an
impending plan by Dufferin Aggregates to open a sand and gravel pit in this southwestern Ontario community on the strength of a license it received 38 years ago, according to a report in the Brantford Expositor.

Close to 40 people, who have formed a group called Concerned Citizens
of Brant County, practically filled the county council chamber on
Tuesday to request that Brant ask the Ministry of Natural Resources to
review the licence, and ensure that Dufferin is in compliance with all
the conditions under the current permit before allowing any activity on
the site.

"We would ask that council insists on an independent, current and
comprehensive environmental study that would include considerations for
water quality, wildlife pollution and potential containment," group
spokesman Paul Cheney told council.
