CCA launches online advocacy campaign ahead of federal election

The Canadian Construction Association (CCA) has established the Construction Action Network, a web-based letter-writing campaign designed to communicate industry issues to federal election candidates.

“Facing a debt of $1.6 trillion, it’s time for action and investment that will help people, businesses, families and communities thrive now, and well into the future,” says Mary Van Buren, president of the CCA, in a letter to members.

“Construction will be a key sector driving Canada’s future economy, creating jobs, connecting communities and countries, and increasing confidence in consumer spending and private investment.”

The campaign, running online at construction4cdns.ca and on social media using #Construction4Cdns, asks the future government to increase investments in infrastructure, improve procurement rules, and continue to build the talent pipeline in the construction industry.

Supporters can add their name and email to a pre-written letter containing three recommendations for the federal government to support the construction sector:

  1. To develop an independent advisory body bridging provincial and municipal interests to fix aging infrastructure;
  2. To ensure construction is marketed as an industry of choice to students, youth, persons from underrepresented groups and other potential new recruits through funding of the CCA’s Talent Fits Here campaign and other such recruitment programs; and
  3. To overhaul federal procurement policies in a way that will boost innovation and risk sharing.
