Cat debuts new MH3050 material handler

April 26, 2023  By Rock to Road Staff

Cat introduced the MH3050 material handler, which is designed for performance, reliability, and comfort. An advanced electrohydraulic system focused on optimizing the balance between power and efficiency when improving the volume of material handled per cycle time plays a significant role in the design.

A prominent focus of the MH3050’s design is safety and operator protection. E-fence prevents movement outside of operator-designated envelopes, while Operator ID prevents unauthorized use of the machine without proper PIN input.

This emphasis on operator safety continues in the cab with large tempered glass windows, all-around cameras, and a touchscreen monitor to grant maximum visibility for operators. This visibility is enhanced by LED lights fitted on the chassis, boom, and stick of the machine. Cab avoidance prevents any contact between the attachment and the cab.

Additional cab features provide comfort, including joystick steering that eliminates the steering column to improve forward visibility, legroom, and ease of cab entry, with all controls positioned in close reach to the operator. The machine has a system memory that recalls joystick settings based on Operator ID. A hydraulic cab riser provides cushioning from external vibrations.

The MH3050 uses a Cat C9.3B engine capable of operating on up to B20 biodiesel, with the machine allowing operators to choose between Power, Smart, and Economy operating modes.

The combined boom and stick offering provides up to 18 metres of reach, which, combined with high swing torque, increases the volume and speed with which materials can be moved without repositioning the machine. Cat Payload provides operators with a real-time weight estimate of handled materials without the need for swinging.

A number of features prioritize maintenance and maximizing uptime. ProductLink tracks data including hours, fuel usage, productivity, and fault codes, providing operators with the data they need to keep maintenance in check. A hydraulic oil filter increases change intervals to 3,000 operating hours, and a 1,000 operating hour change interval on fuel filters. These features, along with several others, mean that the MH3050 lasts 50 per cent longer than previous designs.
