Volvo
Construction Equipment kicked off day two of the trade show by hosting the
media for a sneak peek at the new 7000 class series paver and the DD110 roller.
The 7000 class paver is the successor to the 6000 class paver. The 7000 series
builds on the successes of the Ingersoll-Rand brand, refining the technology by
using Volvo innovations to provide a high-quality highway-grade paver. The
DD110B tandem roller is built as a 10-ton class roller but features a little
extra weight than the typical machine in its class. Volvo has introduced a
51-inch drum diameter on the DD110B, keeping with its tradition of providing a
larger roller width than similar models in its class. The DD line of rollers
will also include a 12-ton and 14-ton model, all of which are equipped with a
Volvo T4i engine. None of these machines are available for purchase yet,
providing attendees at the show with a peak at new technology coming soon to
the North American road paving market.

The rest
of day two focused on conversations with equipment manufacturers on the state
of the Canadian aggregates and roadbuilding industry. Representatives from such
companies as Hazemag, KPI-JCI, Carlson, Caterpillar, Derrick,
Philippi-Hagenbuch, Polydeck and Telsmith all expressed their intention to ramp
up their efforts in expanding distributor networks and push more new products
into the Canadian market as sales to the country continue to stay strong. The
recent export figures regarding construction equipment sales to Canada have
bolstered that positive outlook on Canada, causing this country to remain as a
high priority for manufacturers.
