Caledon looks to establish policy on mega quarry
January 6, 2023 By Caledon Enterprise
Caledon Mayor Annette Groves has her priorities set for the new year, from a made-in-Caledon plan for responsible growth and traffic and community safety on the town’s roads, to strong policies on aggregate operations.
On the proposed mega quarry by Votorantim Cimentos, a Brazilian conglomerate, near the West Credit River, Groves said the issue would be addressed in the short term through an interim control bylaw (ICBL), and in the long term through policies in the town’s official plan.
The ICBL will allow time to work with the area residents to protect their quality of life, she says, as staff works with the planning department and residents to establish an aggregate advisory task force.
