B.C. Highway 29 resurfacing work to begin this summer

March 6, 2018 – Driving on Highway 29 is about to get better, with approximately 47 kilometres of resurfacing work scheduled to improve safety and efficiency.

“Resurfacing this stretch of Highway 29 will provide a much safer, smoother ride,” said Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “We are pleased to get going on this project, which will enable businesses to move their products more efficiently and make travelling easier for people in the region.”

The resurfacing work will start at Bullmoose Flats Bridge, 25 kilometres north of Tumbler Ridge on Highway 29, and end at the Sukunka Forest Service Road. Hot-in-place recycled asphalt will be used, which is more environmentally friendly, as it reduces greenhouse gasses and conserves non-renewable paving materials.

Peter’s Brothers Construction Ltd., from Penticton, B.C. was awarded the $4.8-million contract. Work is scheduled to take place this summer. Single-lane alternating traffic will be in place during construction. Motorists are advised to follow the instructions of traffic signs and traffic-control personnel on-site.

The ministry is committed to rehabilitating highways and bridges throughout British Columbia, and to building new infrastructure where it is needed. The B.C. government will continue to invest in transportation infrastructure for the safe, reliable and efficient movement of people and goods.
