bauma 2019 in Munich at the ready

March 31, 2019  By bauma

In just a few days, bauma, the world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines, construction vehicles and construction equipment, will open its gates for the 32nd time. From April 8 to 14, 2019, around 3,700 exhibitors will present their latest products and innovations, as well as their biggest and heaviest machines in Munich.

Klaus Dittrich, chairman and CEO of Messe München, is looking forward to the “biggest bauma in the history of the trade fair. The first exhibitors already began erecting their booths last year in November. We know of various companies that will be presenting more than 150 exhibits. More than 13,000 trucks and 600 heavyweight vehicles are in use for bauma. What we will experience in Munich during these seven days will be amazing.”

Facts and figures about the largest trade fair in the world
The figures for bauma 2019 are also amazing: With 614,000 square metres, the world’s largest trade fair has added nearly 9,000 square metres since the last fair. 414,000 square metres of this is outdoor. The remaining 200,000 square metres are taken up by the 18 halls at the trade fair grounds in Munich. 3,700 exhibitors from about 60 countries will be present in the Bavarian capital (2016: 3,425 exhibitors from 58 countries). Of these, 80 exhibitors are using the new bauma PLUS program. With co-working areas, compact booths on shared areas and digital services, for the first time, Messe München offered participation options in addition to the classic booth. Background: The trade fair has been booked out consistently for years. At present, the top ten exhibiting countries after Germany (1,269) are:

  • Italy (549 exhibitors)
  • China (401 exhibitors)
  • Turkey (189 exhibitors)
  • United Kingdom (133 exhibitors)
  • USA (126 exhibitors)
  • France (120 exhibitors)
  • Netherlands (116 exhibitors)
  • Spain (96 exhibitors)
  • Austria (91 exhibitors)
  • Finland (56 exhibitors)

Because of the increase in the number of exhibitors, Messe München also expects to welcome more visitors this year: This time around, the 600,000 mark could be reached. In 2016, 583,736 visitors from 219 countries attended the exhibition.

Webcam and Selfie Tower
The live pictures from the outdoor exhibition area of bauma already provide an impressive overview: https://www.bauma.de/trade-fair/at-the-fair/webcam/index.html. But on site there is another option to enjoy the spectacular range of construction machinery—even with a view of the Alps in good weather. For the first time, a selfie tower will be available in the north-east outdoor area. Built from 24 shipping containers, it offers visitors and exhibitors a 54-square-meter viewing platform at a height of 22 meters.

Things visitors should know
Visitors who are interested can once again buy their tickets online at https://www.bauma.de/visitors/planning-your-visit/purchase-ticket/index.html. Pre-registered visitors enter bauma directly through the turnstile, thus avoiding long waiting times.

An overview of the opening hours:

Monday to Friday: 09:30 to 18:30
Saturday: 08:30 to 18:30
Sunday: 09:30 to 16:30

The size of bauma is also evident on Munich roads. The organizers recommend the use of public transport. The underground line U2 stops at Messestadt West and Messestadt Ost every three to three and a half minutes at peak traffic times during the fair. Motorists can use the decentralized car parks that have been set up especially for the fair near the highway (A94, A99 and A9) and can then travel for free to the trade fair with one of the shuttle buses. Car parks and parking garages are also available in the direct vicinity of the trade fair. On all main roads, the approach to bauma 2019 will be shown on a modern traffic management system, which will guide drivers to the next empty car park, using the best possible route. More details can be found in the arrival flyer.
