B.C. – Road Safety at Work has launched its annual Cone Zone safety awareness campaign for 2024, focusing on the resources and practices for British Columbia’s construction industry in maintaining safe roadside work environments.

As part of the campaign, Road Safety at Work has published the What Employers Need to Know to Keep Roadside Workers Safe guide, which addresses the requirements of WorkSafeBC’s OHS regulations Part 18 and the 2020 Traffic Management Manual for Work on Roadways. Other tools for employers include the Roadside Work Preparation hazard identification checklist and the Work Zone Planning Tool Kit.

Resources have also been provided for employees, including a list of what roadside workers need to know, the Set Up and Take Down of Roadside Work Zones guide, and the roadside work safety quiz.

The Cone Zone campaign is a joint provincial initiative, supported by the Work Zone Safety alliance and manage by Road Safety at work. While running year round, the campaign emphasizes the spring and summer months due to the volume of roadside work during these seasons. A full list of resources can be found at ConeZoneBC.com.
