ASGA director Brent Morrey of Lafarge Canada discusses the first-ever ASGA Awards of Excellence during the association’s AGM in Enoch, Alta.

January 12, 2017 – We need to tell our stories. That was the message given during the announcement of the Alberta Sand & Gravel Association’s first-ever Awards of Excellence Program at the association’s annual general meeting at the Marriott River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch, Alta.

“We want an opportunity to write our own story,” ASGA director Brent Morrey of Lafarge Canada told the crowd. “We should feel proud and we should be recognized for what we’re doing.”

The new awards program is designed to draw attention to outstanding examples of stewardship, community relations and operations from aggregate producers within the Province of Alberta.

Brent Morrey said that during his search of industry awards across the country, he found that award programs varied significantly across the provinces, from some holding multiple awards programs to others that have none. To his knowledge, Alberta had no such program in place to acknowledge the good work of the province’s aggregate sector.

“Please submit your good ideas, because we want to get them out there,” he said. “It doesn’t matter how big or small an operation, we want to hear about it.”

Submission guidelines for the awards will be announced in the near future and will be available at the ASGA website (www.asga.ab.ca). Applications will be submitted directly to the ASGA office.

The ASGA Awards of Excellence will be presented at the 2018 ASGA Annual General Meeting, which will be held at the Marriott River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch, Alta. The dates for the 2018 AGM will be announced in the near future.
