Ring Road construction to begin in 2016

October 28, 2015  By  Andrew Macklin

October 28, 2015 – Alberta’s Infrastructure Minister says that construction of the southwest ring road in Calgary will begin by the end of 2016.

A report from the Calgary Herald states that Brian Mason made the announcement that the project would not be delayed any further in order to meet the May 2022 deadline imposed as part of the agreement with Tsuu T-ina Nation.

The governing NDP party has decided to move forward with the project using the P3 model, a measure it typically opposes, in order to ensure that the project is completed on schedule.

Currently, the project is budgeted at $1.9 billion. However, Mason was not prepared to provide a cost estimate for the project based on the government’s P3 tender.

The contractor for the project is expected to be announced in the summer of 2016, with work to begin in the fall of 2016.
