Ontario commits $300 million to new Highway 7

Dec. 30, 2014, Guelph, Ont. – The province of Ontario is
targeting 2020 for the completion of a new Highway 7 between Kitchener and
Guelph.

targeting 2020 for the completion of a new Highway 7 between Kitchener and
Guelph.

 

According to a report from The Wellington Advertiser,
construction of the four-lane, 18km stretch of highway isset to begin in 2015
at a projected cost of $300 million.

The project was originally approved in 2007. The new route,
which will replace the existing Highway 7, involves the acquisition of land
from 87 different property owners. Thus far, the province has acquired land
from 57 different landowners at a cost of $70 million.

 

The new highway will reduce congestion, and provide a safer route
between the two growing communities.
