June 27, 2016 – Terex Cranes apprentice Elias Sutter has won the world championship title in hand arc welding at the Arc Cup world welding championships for young welders, which took place from June 18 to 20 in Beijing, China.

The young German welder from Zweibrücken felt overwhelmed after being named the winner.

“For me, just getting to the world championships and competing against the best young welders in the world was in itself a fantastic success,” he said. “I can hardly believe that I have now actually won the title.”

Sutter was a member of the German team, which took 2nd place overall in the championships.

Klaus Beulker, senior director of operations and managing director for Terex Cranes Germany GmbH in Zweibrücken, offered his congratulations to his young employee.

“The fact that our apprentice Elias Sutter competed in the world championships in Beijing is further evidence of the high level of training at our Zweibrücken site, which has for a long time been among the best in the world,” he said. “A key person in this latest success is our training supervisor Jürgen Hoffmann, who has been committed to the development of our young people for many years. I should, therefore, like to explicitly thank him too at this point.”

For Heribert Bussmann, group vice-president of global engineering, product management and marketing, the winning of the title demonstrates the success of the company’s strategy of promoting the development of young employees and enabling them to become among the best in their profession.

“Welding is a core competence in the construction of large cranes — and with our Terex Cranes and Demag brands we are a world-class player in this field,” he said. “This is due to our highly trained employees who, like Elias Sutter, have been outstandingly well trained by us.”

In preparation for the world championships, the four young welders spent a week undergoing intensive practice at the training centre of the Schweißtechnische Kursstätte SK Pfalz GmbH.

“The training camp almost on my own doorstep was of course a stroke of luck for me — as was the support from my trainer at Terex Cranes, Jürgen Hoffmann, who also came with us to Beijing,” Sutter said. “We have a lot to thank him for.”
