September 20, 2016 – Ontario Road Builders’ Association (ORBA) congratulates this year’s recipients of the Civil Engineering and Civil Engineering Technology Scholarships.

MillarCoveney
Millar Coveney, entering his first year this month in the Bachelor of Science Engineering and General Engineering program at Queen’s University, was awarded the $2,000 Civil Engineering Scholarship. Millar recently worked in a co-op placement at an engineering firm in their municipal department where he gained insight and knowledge into the practical application of engineering in the field. He has a goal of using civil engineering skills along with his concerns for the environment to reduce the harmful effects of climate change by implementing long-term sustainable projects that will benefit communities. With Millar’s drive and desire to reduce the environmental impact on future projects, he will be a great asset to the industry.

DanielWoodheadDaniel Woodhead, entering his first year in the Civil Engineering Technology program at Georgian College, was awarded the $2,000 Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship. Already having spent his summers working in the construction industry with his family business, Daniel has learned firsthand about the different types of projects in the civil engineering field that drive his interest in bridge construction. Daniel also has an interest in municipal infrastructure and having lived in a rural area, he would like to see improved designs and current technology used in his own community. With a desire to pursue a career working in the field, Daniel’s effective communication and problem-solving skills will play a vital role within a team on a jobsite.

“ORBA members congratulate Millar and Daniel on their scholarships and we wish them great success as they develop and apply the skills to help them become part of the future generation of building Ontario’s transportation infrastructure,” said ORBA Education Committee Co-Chair, John Blake. Fellow ORBA Education Committee Co-Chair Geoffrey Stephens added, “ORBA is proud to provide financial support to students who have selected a career path in our industry where they are passionate to contribute to the industry and make a difference in so many communities.”
