Ontario halts GTA West study

December 17, 2015  By  Andrew Macklin

December 17, 2015 – The Ontario Government has decided to put the brakes on the plan for a new 400-series highway linking the 401 and the 400… for now.

According to a CBC News story, the government announced that it is suspending the environmental assessment phase of the plan due to concerns over how it will impact the province’s Greenbelt.

The new highway, proposed as Highway 413, was to link Highway 401 east of Milton with Highway 400 near King City. The route would have provided a Toronto by-pass route for travellers looking to access cottage country from major centres such as Kitchener-Waterloo, London and Guelph.

The government has said that it will re-visit its transportation plan for the region this spring.
