New Brunswick exploring toll highways

December 1, 2015  By  Andrew Macklin

December 1, 2015 – In an effort to eliminate a $600 million structural deficit, the Government of New Brunswick is exploring ideas for new revenue streams, including the possibility of adding tolls to provincial highways.

According to an article from the CBC, highway tolls are one of a number of options being explored by the government. They are also exploring other opportunities for new revenue streams, as well as potential cuts and cost-saving overhauls to government services.

In the article, Health Minister Victor Boudreau, who is charged with leading the strategic program review, says that he believes many people actually do want tolls for highway use but many don’t actually want to have to pay for them.

The review will be taken to the people of New Brunswick to get their feedback on what solutions should be further explored.
