August 19, 2015  By  Andrew Macklin

August 19, 2015 – Nelson Aggregates has filed a request for a new gravel pit in Adjala-Tosorontio Township that will extract up to one million tonnes of sand and gravel annually.

According to an article from the New Tecumseh Free Press, Nelson Aggregates has applied for a Class A license for the site northwest of Toronto, which would allow them extract aggregate from below the water table.

Public meetings held on the permit have raised concerns from the community on issues of environmental impact, as well as increased noise and dust.

A special public meeting has been called for August 20th to discuss Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments to allow the application to move forward. However, a planning report has recommended to delay the decision until local council members can address concerns from the public.
