Driver-less crash truck technology demonstrated

August 26, 2015  By  Andrew Macklin

August 26, 2015 – Royal Truck and Equipment Inc. has developed a new driver-less crash truck technology that could take many road construction workers out of harm’s way.

A CBC report looked at the new technology demonstrated at an event in Bethlehem, Pa. earlier this week. Current truck mounted attenuators reduce work zone injuries significantly, but drivers of the vehicles can still suffer an injury when the truck is hit by a motorist.

The new technology will first be used in Florida under a Department of Transportation pilot program. Royal is partnering with Micro Systems Inc. on the driverless crash trucks.
