Cement production down in January

March 14, 2016 – Cement production saw a significant drop in January as levels dropped under 600,000 tonnes monthly for the first time in almost a year.

Cement production in January was 517,767 tonnes according to information provided by Statistics Canada, which represents a 12.4 per cent decline in production year-to-year. The production is the lowest since February 2015, when 495,272 tonnes were produced.

Cement shipments also experienced a double-digit decline year-over-year. The shipment over 467,344 represents a 10.1 per cent drop from January of 2015.
