Ontario government investing in highway infrastructure, creating jobs

June 10, 2009 - The 2009 highway construction season will create more than 16,000 direct and indirect jobs and expand, repair and improve highways, roads and bridges across the province, according to today’s McGuinty government announcement.

Key construction projects include:

  • Widening Highway 401 between Highway 410 and Hurontario Street in Mississauga
  • Building 15 kilometres of new Highway Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes on the QEW, from Guelph Line in Burlington to Burloak Drive in Oakville
  • Widening Highway 401 from four to six lanes from Windsor to Tilbury as part of the Border Infrastructure Fund project
  • Continuing the extension of Highway 410 from Mayfield Road to Highway 10 in Brampton and  Highway 404 from Green Lane to Ravenshoe Road
  • Completing the first phase of construction on the Highway 406 twinning project in Welland.
The McGuinty government is investing a record $2.4 billion in 2009 - an increase of 24 percent over last year.
