Andy Bateman Halton Region opposes St Marys application
Written by Andy Bateman

May 25, 2009 - An article in last Friday’s Milton Canadian Champion reports that Halton Region has added its name to the list of municipalities objecting to an application by St Marys Cement for a licence to operate a quarry at the border of Flamborough and Milton, just north of Burlington.

Last week, regional council approved staff to submit the municipality’s objection to the licence application to Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources, which received comments on the application until May 23rd.

The City of Hamilton and the Town of Milton have already submitted their objections, along with Conservation Halton.

A number of concerns about the proposal remain unaddressed, according to the municipalities, including environmental and hydrogeological issues and the impact on local roads.
