April 18, 2011 – Inland Empire cities were among the municipalities awarded more than $8.1 million for road projects that will put about 1.2 million old tires to new use.
The grants come from Cal-Recycle, a division of the state Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery.
Rubberized asphalt concrete combines ground-up tire rubber with asphalt binder and other aggregates. It can last twice as long as a traditional road surface, has better traction and is quieter, officials said. | READ MORE
