Apprenticeship declines for third year in Ont.

March 2, 2011 – Ontario contractors have reported a third straight year in declining intentions to employ apprentices, but this is not an indicator companies underestimate their value, the Ontario Construction Secretariat says.

“The number has declined, but it is not an unusual pattern because typically in times of economic downturn, as in 2008 and 2009, contractors and businesses are reluctant to bring apprentices on.
