N.S.: Road work not in jeopardy

Jan. 25, 2011 – The request to Ottawa to use $47 million from an infrastructure fund for the proposed new Halifax convention centre was defended by Premier Darrell Dexter and Infrastructure Renewal Minister Bill Estabrooks on Thursday.

Last week Estabrooks wrote to federal Infrastructure Minister Chuck Strahl to suggest the money could come from the Building Canada Fund, much of which has been used for roads and bridges.

Dexter said the province supports projects in all areas of the province.

"The convention centre is good for the entire province, not just for Halifax," he said. "It helps to strengthen the economy of the province; it’s good for tourism in other parts of the province." | READ MORE
