The two-day event, which was held at the 500-acre Case Customer Center, included fireworks, the opportunity to “test drive” a multitude of Case equipment from smaller gear such as the backhoe/loaders to the company’s massive articulated trucks, and the chance to talk one-on-one with Case product designers and marketing staff.

Despite heavy rain, flooding and lots of mud, the event went off without a hitch with the star of the show – the N Series – providing an extended look at its impressive capabilities.
The new N Series includes four loader/backhoe models that Case describes as “Stronger Everywhere,” with major increases in backhoe breakout force and lift, along with increased loader breakout force, lift and reach. Consisting of the 580N, 580 Super N, 580 Super N Wide Track and 590 Super N, the new line-up of loader/backhoes replaces the company’s M Series, which included three products. The new machines all feature 4.5-litre, turbocharged engines, ranging from 79 hp in the 580N to 108 hp in the 590SN.
“The N Series was engineered from the ground up,” said Rob Marringa, marketing manager for Case Construction Equipment. “We’ve taken the flagship product of the Case lineup and delivered best-in-class performance from back to front.”
The freshly designed cab of the N Series includes several new comfort and safety features designed to improve operator productivity. Floor to ceiling windows provide superior visibility, while new rear-quarter windows provide easy communication to the back of the machine and improve cross-ventilation comfort.
Productivity and jobsite safety have been enhanced on the new N Series with a new side lighting package that helps illuminate the entire perimeter and the industry’s quietest cab at just 72 decibels. As in the M Series, the new machines feature adjustable operator seats, ergonomically placed controls and all-season heating and air conditioning systems.
During the N Series research and development process, Case engineers and product designers turned to end users of their products for advice and input over a 20-month span. Dennis Zentner of DRZ Contracting in the Vancouver, B.C., suburb of Delta, B.C., played an extensive role in the N Series development and he tested the 580SN WT prototype. He also was on hand at the Tomahawk media event to answer questions and provide comments.
“The 580SN WT backhoe performed well on grading, trenching, backfilling, heavy lifting, hole-patching and rock-breaking,” he said. “Its heavy-lifting ability is fantastic. It will save me from using an excavator for lifting.”
