Dufferin Concrete equips fleet with Enviroguard
June 18, 2010, Toronto – Dufferin Concrete, a division of Holcim Canada Inc. announced today that its entire fleet of over 400 concrete ready-mix vehicles in Ontario has been equipped with Enviroguard, a new and innovative self-contained ready-mix truck chute wash-out system which effectively eliminates any concrete chute wash water released into the environment.

With this announcement, Dufferin Concrete is the only ready-mix concrete supplier in Ontario to have outfitted its entire fleet with this innovative environmental solution. Enviroguard addresses an industry wide environmental issue of disposing off chute wash water in a safe, cost effective and eco-friendly manner.

"At Holcim Canada, we are committed to sustainable development, responsible stewardship of the natural environment, and living up to our social responsibility," said Nick Caccavella, Sr. Vice President, Ontario and Western Canada at Holcim Canada. He further added, "Equipping the entire fleet of Dufferin Concrete's ready-mix trucks, is not only an example of our leadership in bringing innovative solutions to our customers but also a testament of our commitment to leaving a smaller environmental footprint."

Enviroguard works in a simple and effective manner where the ready-mix truck driver simply hoses down the chute and the waste water collects in a bucket, along with sand, aggregates and cementitious materials, which is then recycled. The system provides an environmentally responsive and economical solution for recycling materials and water that would otherwise be dumped or wasted on a job site.

Dufferin Concrete started introducing the Enviroguard chute washout system on its fleet a little over a year ago and the initiative was the recipient of an Ontario Concrete Awards in 2009.
