Dexter lands $1.2 billion N.B. project

April 12, 2010- The provincial government of New Brunswick confirmed last Thursday that Dexter Construction, part of the Municipal Group of Companies, will complete work valued at nearly $1.2 billion on the Route 1 Gateway Project highway expansion project.

As part of a public-private partnership valued at $580 million, Dexter Construction will expand the Mackay Highway to six lanes between Saint John and Rothesay. Roadbuilding will also include 55 kilometres of four-lane highway on Route 1 from Waweig to St. George and from Pennfield to Lepreau.

The New Brunswick government also awarded Dexter Construction a maintenance and operations contract valued at about $20 million a year, or about $600 million over the 30-year lifespan of the contract.

Construction is expected to be completed by July 31, 2013. Transfield Dexter Gateway Services Ltd will be operate and maintain 235 km of Route 1 between St. Stephen and River Glade from June 1, 2011, until June 2040.
